| Offshore Testing Services / Models |
Based on the complexity of application, criticality of application and overall strategy of the client with respect to software testing outsourcing, various engagement models are possible.
| Level 1 |
Offshore Test Planning & Scripting with On-site execution |
In most software testing engagements we find that up to 70% of the project time is spent on planning and design. Offshoring this part of the project can result in substantial time and cost benefits - a key benefit when you outsource testing to Maveric
How will it work?
Tool based planning and scripting done off-shore in Bangalore/Chennai, India |
Necessary documentation along with scripts sent to the Client for on-site execution |
A large part of the team that was involved in offshore QA test planning and scripting can move onsite for execution. Client’s own software QA team can also join in execution, if required |
We understand that planning and scripting will require a lot of client interaction for application knowledge transfer. This can be achieved by having a small core team from Maveric interacting with the client on-site. Quality of specification documents / application provided would determine the face-time required with the client during this phase.
When will it work?
Suitable in scenarios where the test execution cannot be done offshore due to any of the following reasons;
Security Concerns |
Technical infeasibility of Internet based access to the application under test |
This outsourced/offshore software testing approach can be adopted for both manual and automated functional testing.
Level
2 |
Internet Connectivity based Software Offshore Testing/Test Outsourcing |
With stable, secure and high speed bandwidth becoming increasingly available, web-enabled access to client applications from our delivery centres is a cost-effective option to delivering outsourced/offshore testing engagements.
How will it work?
Client interaction for understanding requirements can be entirely offshore based on quality of specification documents / application provided. Ideally, a small core team can be based onsite for adequate knowledge transfer |
Tool based planning and scripting is done offshore in this outsourcing test model |
Execution of test scripts through high-bandwidth Internet based connectivity to the application |
Web based defect reporting and tracking with client access |
Ability to provide regression testing support using automated tools and version controlled scripting |
When will it work?
Would require client to provide an Internet based access to the application under test. Necessary firewall configurations may be designed to limit access |
Test bed creation and versioning responsibility will be with the client |
Based on the size of team required, the dedicated bandwidth may be ascertained. 512Kbps to 2Mbps connectivity will be available on demand |
This offshore QA/outsource of software testing approach can be adopted for functional testing. High network latency makes this inappropriate for any load / performance testing requirement.
Level
3 |
Dedicated IPLC Connectivity based Offshore Testing |
Based on the investment that the client is willing to make in developing a strong offshore testing capability, Maveric can create a dedicated pipe for ensuring secure access to client’s test environment.
How will it work?
Client interaction for understanding requirements can be either entirely offshore based on quality of specification documents / application provided |
Tool based planning and scripting done off-shore |
Execution of test scripts (manual or automated) through high-bandwidth IPLC connectivity to the client site |
Web based defect reporting and tracking with client access |
Ability to provide regression testing support using automated tools and version controlled scripting |
When will it work?
This would be worth exploring when a minimum of 40-member offshore testing team is guaranteed. Requires client participation in identifying and implementing the necessary IPLC at both ends and will work for both functional and load/performance testing.
Level
4 |
Offshore Testing Environment |
In the event that there is clear long-term visibility for ongoing testing, the Maveric would take an initiative to set-up a dedicated offshore testing environment for the client.
How will it work?
Offshore test bed creation replicating the on-site environment |
Tool based end-to-end management of test process (Planning-Execution-Defect Management-Regression) with client visibility to monitor the same |
When will it work?
Suited for product testing with versioning and release management requirements, particularly where development is currently outsourced to an Indian vendor |
Large testing team sizes with continuous testing for ongoing multiple releases of the application |
